What is Skin Packaging?
Skin packaging is a vacuum-sealing process where:
- The product is placed on the tray or flat board.
- A heated, transparent plastic film is draped over the product and board.
- Vacuum is applied, pulling the film tightly around the product and bonding it to the board with an adhesive layer or heat.
Typical Tray Types
- Flat Skin Boards
- Fully flat cardboard sheets, often used with adhesive coating or film-seal layer.
- Ideal for sliced meat, cheese, and fish fillets.
- Often laminated with PE or PET layer for sealing.
- Shallow Die-Cut Trays
- Low-edge cardboard trays, offering some shape definition.
- Used for items needing a bit of depth (sausages, meat cuts).
- Corrugated Cardboard Trays
- For heavier or industrial products (hardware, tools).
- May have printed branding or instructions.
